I attended a workshop today on pre natal diagnosis. Dr Rielly of Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in the Bronx was the presenter.
It was so interesting to hear all that is happening in pre natal diagnosis. For me it was a reminder of the benefits of some tests when they are used for good. Trouble is, many times they are like a search and destroy mission, but it is good to remember that they also benefit the baby in times when steps can be taken to prepare parents so that they can make their children comfortable no matter what happens, or when the unborn can be operated on in the womb.
Having met many couples who aborted because of pressure due to a poor diagnosis my heart breaks for the pain they have endured and sometimes it is hard for me to remember the good...I pray there are more doctors like Dr Rielly out there, who uses the knowledge for the dignity of life, no matter how short , so that there will be less couples out there experiencing the pain I have seen from those who were pressured to terminate.
