So much for Choice

Two major pro-life amendments offered by Senator Hatch (conscience protection and abortion funding) have been defeated in the Senate Finance committee: http://blog.aul.org/2009/09/30/update-amendments-in-senate-finance-committee-mark-up/.

 for those of you in NY:

I know that many of you contacted Senator Schumer prior to this vote and now I encourage you to contact him again through his Congressional website (http://schumer.senate.gov/new_website/contact.cfm) and say the following, or words to this effect:

 

I am outraged by your votes today against the two amendments offered by Senator Hatch in the Senate Finance Committee on the Health Care Reform Bill.  No health care reform initiative should involve using federal money, either directly or indirectly, to fund elective abortions.  Any health care reform bill should scrupulously respect the conscience rights of those who do not wish to perform or participate in abortions.  Please reconsider your votes and support conscience protection and an explicit exclusion of federal funding for abortion.

 

Please pass this information along to your committee members and let us continue our prayer and fasting - seeking conversion and true wisdom for those who voted to defeat these amendments.

Emergency Landing

An article in the Village Voice on 2nd trimester abortions, from 2002 :

The phenomenon of women traveling to far-away clinics actually has a name: "abortion tourism." But usually the flow is from countries where abortion is illegal, or close to it. Best known are the estimated 7000 Irish women who journey to England every year for the procedure.

ROUGH LANDING

As a woman who had an abortion in my fifth month of pregnancy I read with disdain Jennifer Block's article on second-trimester abortions ("Emergency Landing," July 9). In my personal experience, I was coaxed by someone to abort my child. Contrary to the idea of free choice, I believe many women abort because of outside pressures.

Block can call the founder of Haven Coalition "the patron saint of abortion access," but many of us who had abortions believe we were deceived and not properly prepared for the possible physical, spiritual, and psychological consequences. As I interpret the July 9 cover, Dorothy is living a nightmare in Oz—I think that sums up abortion for a great number of women.

Michael, Gabriel and Raphael

Today is the Feast of the Archangels.

Michael the defender, who fought against Satan is the protector  from the snares of the devil.

St Michael help us to dismis the traps that may be laid for us in our healing journey causing us to doubt, and instead trust in God and His love for us.

Gabriel the messenger who announced the coming of Jesus to Joseph and Mary.

St Gabriel, although we rejected the gift of life God gave us,grant us the grace now,to always hear and accept the message of God in our lives.

St Raphael, the healer who took care of Tobias on his journey, accompany those who are post abortive on their healing journeys to God. 

St. Augustine says: ‘Angel’ is the name of their office, not of their nature. If you seek the name of their nature, it is ’spirit’; if you seek the name of their office, it is ‘angel’: from what they are , ’spirit’ from what they do ‘angel.’ With their whole beings the angels are servants and messengers of God. Because they ‘always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven’ they are the ‘might ones who do his word, hearkening to the voice of his word.”

As purely spiritual creatures angels have intelligence and will: they are personal and immortal creatures, surpassing in perfection all visible creatures, as the splendor of their glory bears witness.”
