God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
I am sure we have all heard this prayer before but dang it is hard follow. This call to “let go” can be a real crucifixion to our humanness, yet it is exactly this, that we need to do if we are to grow in love, holiness and healing.
We need to let go of unhealthy behaviors which often times have become our friends even though we know they are not good for us.
We need to let go of unhealthy relationships and recognize we cannot control people or what they do. This does not necessarily mean ending a relationship but instead ending trying to change the other person.
We need to let go of our pain which we often cling to because we feel it is what binds us to our children
We need to let go of resentment, anger, fear, jealousy, shame, guilt and all the other things we cling to…yes, you heard me ..it is that word again cling.
It is only in letting go and trusting and letting God, that we will be free to feel His peace and to love, love our unborn children, love ourselves and others, and love God.
When we let go He is able to fill us with Himself!
So start doing your spiritual spring cleaning and pray for the grace to begin to throw those things away. Say the prayer each day and ask for the courage and strength to move out of His way.
God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change,
The courage to change the things I can,
and the wisdom to know the difference.
