I will never forget reading of the years of darkness Mother Teresa endured for decades, with no awareness of the presence of Christ. Her faithfulness in the midst of the darkness have been an inspiration to me in times of difficulty in doing post abortion ministry. A great reminder that faith has nothing to do with feelings and we called to continued trust in Him no matter what.
I was very Blessed to have met Mother years ago. A priest friend of mine said mass every Tuesday for the Missionaries at their convent in the South Bronx, and during one of her visits I was able to attend the Mass and meet her afterwards. I will never forget it.
I still have the Miraculous Medal she was known to hand out as well as her "Business" card.
The fruit of silence is prayer
the fruit of prayer is faith
the fruit of faith is love
The fruit of love is service
The fruit of service is peace.
As we joyfully celebrate the canonization of Mother Teresa may we pray for her intercession for our country, the world, and the work of our hands.
Dear Lord, the Great Healer, I kneel before you, since every perfect gift must come from you. I pray, give skill to my hands, clear vision to my mind, kindness and meekness to my heart. Give me singleness of purpose, strength to lift up a part of the burden of my suffering fellowmen, and a realization of the privilege that is mine. Take from my heart all guile and worldliness, that with the simple faith of a child, I may rely on you. Amen.
