I have frequently spoken of how I love the statue above, that The Sisters of Life have in the foyer of their retreat house, Villa Maria. The statute was made by The Sisters of Bethlehem where I made my annual retreats for years.
As you can see, Mary is sitting with her empty hands out stretched on her lap. For years her hands were like that. I loved it! I always felt like she was longing for, and awaiting the will of God in her life...arms outstretched and empty, willing to do whatever He asked of her.
I often contemplated the statute and held a great fondness for it even using it in many of my talks.
In recent years, the baby Jesus has been placed in Mary's arms, a vision I am sure, was intended from its creation and a fulfillment of Gods will in her life.
As Mother's Day approaches, somehow it takes on more significance. Like Mary with empty arms, I too have empty arms and am awaiting Gods will, longing for the day when my arms will be filled with my son and I will be with him, Mary & Jesus in heaven.
Mary, Our Mother of Mercy, pray for us and fill our arms with your Son , that we may obtain heaven and hold our children!
