Some of you may remember an old Smokey Robinson song titled “The Tracks of My Tears”.
One section of the lyrics go like this:
People say I'm the life of the party
'Cause I tell a joke or two
Although I might be laughing loud and hearty
Deep inside I'm blue
So take a good look at my face
You know my smile looks out of place
If you look closer it's easy to trace
The tracks of my tears
The words of this song express the feelings countless numbers of people feel after having an abortion and the deep pain inside that they hide from the rest of the world. On the outside, it may look like they are “the life of the party”, but, ”deep inside” they are more than blue. So many are suffering with suicidal ideation, depression, anxiety and self loathing.
These days the song may not be popular, but the feelings expressed by it’s lyrics are still felt by countless men and women. As life goes on may times others, even those closest to them may have no idea what hey are experiencing or even that they have had an abortion.
Some find themselves unable to be around pregnant friends and relatives, others distant themselves leaving those that love them wondering why. A wife or husband may stay distance because they are afraid their spouse will learn of a past abortion, other children are left unable to understand why a parent is distant from them thinking it is something they have done.
There are countless ways the impact of abortion manifests itself in our society.
Do you think someone you know may be suffering from an abortion? We challenge you to “look closer” and trace the tracks of their tears. You may be the one to help get them the help they need to heal!
