There is no doubt about it, many of us are in agony. It would be great to say we could keep our peace the way we should if we TRULY trusted God with all of our being, but being mere humans, most of us struggle with the back and forth of that. Surrender take it back, surrender again, you get the picture!
Even if we totally trust, we still have to deal with our ‘feelings” which at times are out of our control. It is so hard to stay away from all the election news. On top of that, abortion has hardly been mentioned even though we all know it is a huge priority for the democrats and the implications if they get in are heart wrenching. I have no doubt the absence of the topic in the debate was intentional, like with everything else, they want to shield the public to the truth of just how radical they are.
Add to all of that, the surge in the virus once again. The confusion- what do you believe? What is political, what is not, and the very real threat of violence after the elections. How can we possibly maintain peace?
There is only one way.
My daughter, consider these words: “And being in agony, he prayed more earnestly” (Diary, 157).
For me, this is the answer. Less time listening to or reading the news. Less time on social media less time in political conversations More time in prayer conversing with Jesus who gives me His peace. It’s not easy. I have a tendency to want to peek into what is happening in the world, but the truth is, I am a weak human being, prone to distractions and emotions and easily mislead if not in His presence.
Lord, help me to stay with You in these times keeping my eyes and my heart on heaven. In the end that is all that really matters.
