The rationalization and justification of abortion speaks loudly in the words of Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac in an October 15th article in People by Ashley Boucher.
Seeking to justify her decision to abort in 1979, she states, "And I knew that the music we were going to bring to the world was going to heal so many people’s hearts and make people so happy," Nicks said. "And I thought, 'You know what? That’s really important. There’s not another band in the world that has two lead women singers, two lead women writers.' That was my world’s mission."
Nicks expresses fear regarding the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court saying "She will absolutely out law it (Roe)and push women back into back alley abortions.'
In abortion recovery we speak about "abortion connectors", people, places or things that bring up either consciously or subconsciously your abortion experience and cause fear and anxiety. As the mother of seven children with a successful career one can only imagine the triggers Barrett sets off for Nicks.
Having fought for Roe vs Wade, the idea that it could be reversed and somehow imply abortion is wrong is just too much to handle for countless numbers of women who have participated in abortion. Not only did many actively work to secure abortion, but most don't even know how to begin to address what this would mean to them on a personal level. The fact that Nicks never had any other children is sure to make it even more devastating. How do you reconcile ending the life of your child for a career and have to face honestly what you have done if abortion is reversed. What she does not seem to know is that even of Roe is overturned it goes back to the states, so sadly, it will most likely always be available.
Nicks is quick to say that she regrets botox but not her abortion, but in 1979 she wrote the song "Sara" the name she said she would have given her aborted baby f she had lived. If you read the lyrics it is harder to believe there is no regret lingering somewhere in her heart.
I hope one day Stevie seeks healing from her abortion, and I am sure Barrett and Sara do too.
Sara (Lyrics)
Wait a minute baby…
Stay with me awhile
Said you’d give me light
But you never told be about the fire
Drowning in the sea of love
Where everyone would love to drown
And now it’s gone
It doesn’t matter anymore
When you build your house
Call me home
And he was just like a great dark wing
Within the wings of a storm
I think I had met my match — he was singing
And undoing the laces
Undoing the laces
Drowning in the sea of love
Where everyone would love to drown
And now it’s gone
It doesn’t matter anymore
When you build your house
Call me home
Hold on
The night is coming and the starling flew for days
I’d stay home at night all the time
I’d go anywhere, anywhere
Ask me and I’m there because I care
Sara, you’re the poet in my heart
Never change, never stop
And now it’s gone
It doesn’t matter what for
When you build your house
I’ll come by
Drowning in the sea of love
Where everyone would love to drown
And now it’s gone
It doesn’t matter anymore
When you build your house
Call me home
All I ever wanted
Was to know that you were dreaming
(There’s a heartbeat
And it never really died)
