The call during Lent is one of repentance:
Wash yourselves clean!
Put away your misdeeds from before my eyes;
cease doing evil; learn to do good.
But it does not stop there. It is also an invitation each year for us to "set things right."
Come now, let us set things right,
says the LORD:
Though your sins be like scarlet,
they may become white as snow;
Though they be crimson red,
they may become white as wool.
If you are willing, and obey,
you shall eat the good things of the land;
But if you refuse and resist,
the sword shall consume you:
for the mouth of the LORD has spoken!
An invitation to pull ourselves back closer to Him and enjoy the many gifts He has waiting for us. I always find it amazing that no matter how much I may practice my faith during the year, this time of Lent tugs at my heart and I recognize the many ways I have strayed.
Let us all be "willing" to set things right and never refuse the mercy of God!
