Divine Mercy Novena Day 8

“Today bring to Me
THE SOULS WHO ARE DETAINED IN PURGATORY,
and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. Let the torrents of My
Blood cool down their scorching flames. All these souls are greatly
loved by Me. They are making retribution to My justice. It is in your
power to bring them relief. Draw all the indulgences from the treasury
of My Church and offer them on their behalf. Oh, if you only knew the
torments they suffer, you would continually offer for them the alms of
the spirit and pay off their debt to My justice.”

Most Merciful Jesus, You Yourself have said that You desire mercy; so
I bring into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls in
Purgatory, souls who are very dear to You, and yet, who must make
retribution to Your justice. May the streams of Blood and Water which
gushed forth from Your Heart put out the flames of Purgatory, that
there, too, the power of Your mercy may be celebrated.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls suffering in
Purgatory, who are enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of
Jesus. I beg You, by the sorrowful Passion of Jesus Your Son, and by all
the bitterness with which His most sacred Soul was flooded: Manifest
Your mercy to the souls who are under Your just scrutiny. Look upon
them in no other way but only through the Wounds of Jesus, Your
dearly beloved Son; for we firmly believe that there is no limit to Your
goodness and compassion. Amen.

It can be terrifying to set out on the journey to healing from abortion. The fear of having to look at what we have done and perhaps see what we have imagined, that we are terrible people, can be paralyzing, but the truth is what we are probably feeling is not the way God sees us. Although our abortions were and always are wrong, He desires us to return to Him and to heal us. He loves us.

Divine Mercy Novena Day 7

“Today bring to Me
THE SOULS WHO ESPECIALLY VENERATE AND GLORIFY MY MERCY,
and immerse them in My mercy. These souls sorrowed most over my
Passion and entered most deeply into My spirit. They are living images
of My Compassionate Heart. These souls will shine with a special
brightness in the next life. Not one of them will go into the fire of hell.
I shall particularly defend each one of them at the hour of death.”

Most Merciful Jesus, whose Heart is Love Itself, receive into the abode
of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls of those who particularly
extol and venerate the greatness of Your mercy. These souls are
mighty with the very power of God Himself. In the midst of all
afflictions and adversities they go forward, confident of Your mercy;
and united to You, O Jesus, they carry all mankind on their shoulders.
These souls will not be judged severely, but Your mercy will embrace
them as they depart from this life.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls who glorify and
venerate Your greatest attribute, that of Your fathomless mercy, and
who are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. These
souls are a living Gospel; their hands are full of deeds of mercy, and
their hearts, overflowing with joy, sing a canticle of mercy to You, O
Most High! I beg You O God: Show them Your mercy according to the
hope and trust they have placed in You. Let there be accomplished in
them the promise of Jesus, who said to them that during their life, but
especially at the hour of death, the souls who will venerate this
fathomless mercy of His, He, Himself, will defend as His glory. Amen.

Men & Abortion

They gathered together on  a Saturday, in the Bronx—they came from far and near, from all races, and from differing educational backgrounds and vocations.  They differed in many other ways—but they had one thing in common—they were all suffering from the pain, anger and in some cases self-loathing that comes from being a post-abortive individual.  Oh, they also had one other thing in common—they were all men!!

Some may ask how a man could possibly suffer from the aftermath of an abortion—after all it was not his child.  How wrong that statement is because all one had to do was to sit and listen to their individual stories to know the answer to that question.  Some had actively participated in arranging for their abortions, some had tried to talk their girlfriend out of the abortion, some had “married into” their abortion (their wife had their abortion prior to marriage).  So many differing stories but one common thread: his child was aborted, and he suffers from the abortion of his child no differently than a woman would suffer after the abortion of her child.

Under the guidance of Fr. Mariusz Koch, CFR and Theresa Bonopartis, one by one their stories started to unfold and for many for the first time they were able to express the anger and pain they suffer for their abortions.  They expressed themselves in a non-judgmental, loving atmosphere.  They started to experience the healing that comes from “getting a load” off ones chest.  But more importantly they experienced the Mercy of God in the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist.

There was another form of forgiveness that started to begin—the forgiveness of their children’s mothers who participated in the abortions with them.

At the end of the day the men were given a prayer card with the image of St. Joseph caressing his child, Jesus Christ.  In part the prayer on the reverse reads:

                        Good Saint Joseph, spouse of Mary,

                        Guide and protector of the Holy Family,

                        You trusted God and opened yourself to receive

                                    The graces you needed

                        To care for Jesus, your Son, our Merciful Savior.

 

                        We know our children are in your care.

                        Lead us to a life of love and fidelity

                                    To the will of your Son,

                        So we may join you in heaven and share eternal life with our children,

                        Praising God forever for the Mercy and love He has shown us.  Amen.

 

After the closing Mass I spoke with Fr. Mariusz and I do not think he would mind my relating this story.  He said he was going to go home and have a “good cry” because of the pain expressed by these men, but also because of the witness they gave by being willing to come and seek God’s Healing Embrace, Mercy, and Forgiveness.

The healing has only begun.  There are many more, women and men, who are in need of the healing Hand of God to embrace them.

When I was going through healing, this prayer became a huge part of my life. A reminder that my healing was not based on my feelings but on my trust in God despite what I felt.

It is easy to get caught up in the way we feel. The trauma of abortion can be so deep that we are unable to think or move past our pain and project it into every aspect of our lives. If you are struggling with suffering from abortion, try saying this prayer...it is sure to help you to move past the moment as you proclaim your trust in the Mercy of God.

"Jesus, do not leave me alone in suffering. You know, Lord, how weak I am. I am an abyss of wretchedness, I am nothingness itself; so what will be so strange if You leave me alone and I fall? I am an infant, Lord, so I cannot get along by myself. However, beyond all abandonment I trust, and in spite of my own feeling I trust, and I am being completely transformed into trust—often in spite of what I feel. Do not lessen any of my sufferings, only give me strength to bear them. Do with me as You please, Lord, only give me the grace to be able to love You in every event and circumstance."

In the midst of our suffering from the pain of abortion we need to always remember we do not have to carry our pain alone. Jesus is with us...always

“Today bring to Me
THE SOULS OF THOSE WHO HAVE
SEPARATED THEMSELVES FROM MY CHURCH,
and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. During My bitter Passion
they tore at My Body and Heart, that is, My Church. As they return to
unity with the Church My wounds heal and in this way they alleviate
My Passion.”

Most Merciful Jesus, Goodness Itself, You do not refuse light to those
who seek it of You. Receive into the abode of Your Most
Compassionate Heart the souls of those who have separated
themselves from Your Church. Draw them by Your light into the unity
of the Church, and do not let them escape from the abode of Your
Most Compassionate Heart; but bring it about that they, too, come to
glorify the generosity of Your mercy.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those who
have separated themselves from Your Son's Church, who have
squandered Your blessings and misused Your graces by obstinately
persisting in their errors. Do not look upon their errors, but upon the
love of Your own Son and upon His bitter Passion, which He
underwent for their sake, since they, too, are enclosed in His Most
Compassionate Heart. Bring it about that they also may glorify Your
great mercy for endless ages. Amen.

THOSE WHO DO NOT BELIEVE IN GOD
AND THOSE WHO DO NOT YET KNOW ME.
I was thinking also of them during My bitter Passion, and their future
zeal comforted My Heart. Immerse them in the ocean of My mercy.”

Most compassionate Jesus, You are the Light of the whole world.
Receive into the abode of Your Most Compassionate Heart the souls
of those who do not believe in God and of those who as yet do not
know You. Let the rays of Your grace enlighten them that they, too,
together with us, may extol Your wonderful mercy; and do not let
them escape from the abode which is Your Most Compassionate
Heart.

Eternal Father, turn Your merciful gaze upon the souls of those who
do not believe in You, and of those who as yet do not know You, but
who are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Draw
them to the light of the Gospel. These souls do not know what great
happiness it is to love You. Grant that they, too, may extol the
generosity of Your mercy for endless ages. Amen.

Easter Sunday

…But the angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; He has risen, just as He said! Come, see the place where He lay. Then go quickly and tell His disciples, ‘He has risen from the dead and is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him.’ See, I have told you.”…

From the Easter homily of Pope Francis:

Yet in this situation the women did not allow themselves to be paralyzed.  They did not give in to the gloom of sorrow and regret, they did not morosely close in on themselves, or flee from reality.  They were doing something simple yet extraordinary: preparing at home the spices to anoint the body of Jesus.  They did not stop loving; in the darkness of their hearts, they lit a flame of mercy.  Our Lady spent that Saturday, the day that would be dedicated to her, in prayer and hope.  She responded to sorrow with trust in the Lord.

We know that our old self was crucified with him,
so that our sinful body might be done away with,
that we might no longer be in slavery to sin.
For a dead person has been absolved from sin.
If, then, we have died with Christ,
we believe that we shall also live with him.
We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more;
death no longer has power over him.
As to his death, he died to sin once and for all;
as to his life, he lives for God.
Consequently, you too must think of yourselves as being dead to sin
and living for God in Christ Jesus  (Romans 6)

Allowing God To Bestow His Love And Forgiveness

"God always loves us. However, it is necessary for us to allow
Him to love us. If love means bestowals, then let us allow God to bestow
forgiveness upon us." (The Two Pillars, SC Biela)

Allowing God forgiveness to seep into our being is often very difficult for those who are post abortive.
We tend to put a limit on His love because we cannot believe He would forgive us for participating in such a terrible act, the death of our child.

Yet, many try in other ways to make up for their abortion, as if doing this or that would somehow tip the scale in our favor.

The bad news is, we can never make up for our abortions. The good news is we do not have to because Jesus already has by his passion and death. Allow the mystery of this great unconditional love to permeate your soul...allow God to bestow HIs love and forgiveness...

Sit today and gaze at the cross where Our Savior died for love of you - it is there waiting for you!
