I believe in faith - I believe in hope - I believe in love.
I believe in the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our sins, even the sin of abortion.
As we enter into the holiest days of the liturgical year, may we see with the eyes of faith the price paid out of love, for our sin of abortion. That Christ abandoned Himself to the very depths of hell entering into each of our sins to lift us up to Himself manifesting His mercy and love for us.
You may be suffering with self-hatred, despair, fear, depression, anxiety or confusion. You may “feel” unable to forgive yourself and doubt God could ever forgive you.
You may feel judged by the pro-life movement, terrified someone will find out about your abortion and you will not be accepted but condemned, (" If they only knew"), or assailed by the words of those who would want you prosecuted.
You may recoil at the extreme pro-abortion women who justify killing the unborn at every turn and shame you for not feeling the same. Those who disregard the humanity of your child making what you did seem like nothing. Even celebrating it.
You may feel confused or crazy, at the nonchalant attitude of a society that speaks to abortion as a “right” and a “good” for women when you are feeling just the opposite.
It can seem like it is coming at you from all sides, and it is.
Look not to the right, or to the left. Acknowledge your sin. No one knows better than you the enormity of it. The failure to love, the loss of your child with your consent no matter what the circumstances. Show your sorrow, your regret to the Lord. Then in this holiest of weeks plant your eyes on the cross of Jesus Christ. Stand beneath it with Mary who consented to the crucifixion of her son so we may have eternal life.
Stop and try to absorb that.
That He loves you so much He took on your sin to free you from this ultimate failure of love – abortion - and by His ultimate act of pure love poured out for you so that you may experience this life changing love. I did not die for "some" sins, He died for all sin.
It does not matter what those on either side say, or even what your wounded self-whispers in your ear to cause self-condemnation, confusion, and despair tryingto get you to doubt His sacrifice. Keep your gaze fixed on the cross and allow His love to lift you up.
If you have not received His mercy through the Sacrament of Reconciliation, step out in faith (despite how you feel), claiming His love for you and His desire to pour His mercy upon you. I know it is really scary, but I promise you, you will be glad you did.
Do you need encouragement? Give us a call. We have been there and know your struggles.
Don’t let anyone tell you there is no forgiveness. He Himself said “Let the greatest sinners trust in my Mercy.”
Throw yourself into His embrace and place yourself under Mary’s mantle. Mary who always leads us to her Son, who wants our salvation.
Believe in love – it is right there waiting for you at the cross, especially in this holiest of weeks.
Be not afraid!
