It's hard to believe that this Saturday, May 3rd, 2025, it will be 25 years since the death of John Cardinal O'Connor. I still miss him and his unwavering life of faith, standing for the truth no matter what, whether it was fighting to deny the distribution of condoms in Catholic hospitals (he threatened to shut them down before he did that- and he meant it), helping those in crisis pregnancies, or being an instrument of Gods mercy to those post abortive as well as visiting those sck and dying with HIV late at night in the hospitals.
I was very blessed to know the Cardinal, and will always be grateful for his support in beginning the Entering Canaan Ministry with the Sisters of Life which is now in many locations across the country.
The Cardinal affectionately (or maybe not! lol) called me his "haunt" when it came to post abortion healing. I admit, I nagged him constantly telling him we needed to do more for those separated from God because of abortion. In the end my relentless haunting paid off as he promised me it would be one of the apostolates of the Sisters of Life when he began the order. Hence, based on my own healing experience, EC began.
Because of his busy schedule, the Cardinal was unable to participate in the ministry, but always spoke of how he was looking forward to doing just that when he retired. Unfortunately, because of his illness that time never came. However, I have no doubt he has participated all the time in prayer over the last 25 years as EC has grown and thousands have opened their wounded hearts to the mercy of God.
As we approach this milestone of his death, may we celebrate his life in this world and the next and thank God for his faithfulness no matter what the opposition.
Our Lady of Czestochowa, Queen of Polands feast day is also May 3rd. As patroness of the EC ministry I am sure they are both smiling down on the fruits of the ministry in all its locations. Praise be to God!
Our Lady of Czestochowa, pray for us!
John Cardinal O'Connor, pray for us!
